RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Kevin Gowdy.
Gowdy was selected with the 42nd overall pick in the 2016 draft, but only 10 players topped his $3.5 million bonus, which hints at his true pedigree as one of the more polished prep arms in the draft. He already has three pitches; his fastball and changeup both have nice downward action, while his slider has the potential to be a wipeout pitch. At 6-foot-4, 170 pounds, he has some room to fill out and potentially gain some velocity. His command was impeccable as a senior, posting a 93:5 K:BB in 56.2 innings. Consistency with his offspeed pitches is the next step in Gowdy's development, but it appears he is already ahead of the curve. He only made four appearances in the Gulf Coast League after signing, and could make a return trip or get an assignment to short-season Williamsport.
