Thigpen (suspension) had three carries for 31 yards and one reception for 23 yards in Monday's preseason opener against the Eskimos.

Thigpen will be forced to sit out the first two games of the season after violating the CFL's drug policy over the offseason, but if Sunday's showing is any indication -- not to mention his 169-yard playoff showing last year -- he will push for touches when he makes his 2018 debut in Week 3.

Thigpen was suspended two games for a violation of the CFL/CFLPA drug policy.

Thigpen tested positive for the banned substance Dehydrochlormethyltestosterone. The 31-year-old rushed seven times for 32 yards and a touchdown for the Roughriders in 2017. He added two catches for 31 yards and a touchdown.

Thigpen rushed seven times for 34 yards, caught two passes for 16 yards and returned three kickoffs for 54 yards in Sunday's 25-21 Eastern Final loss to the Argonauts.

The versatile speedster saw involvement in three phases, but his overall production was certainly underwhelming considering he was once again the lead back with both Cameron Marshall (knee) and Trent Richardson (lower body) sidelined. Game flow certainly seemed to play a role in Thigpen seeing only seven carries, as the Roughriders found themselves down by an 18-3 score by the third quarter. Despite only appearing in two regular-season games this season, Thigpen certainly showed plenty of upside as a rusher, receiver and returner. Consequently, he figures to have a shot at earning a solid role in the 2018 offense, although Marshall and Richardson will serve as formidable competition for touches.

Head coach Chris Jones indicated Friday that Thigpen "is going to be one of our backs" in Sunday's Eastern Final, Rob Vanstone of the Regina Leader-Post reports.

Jones did not explicitly say who the Roughriders' primary running back in Sunday's game would be, but neither Cameron Marshall (knee) or Trent Richardson (lower body) will play this weekend and Thigpen is coming off a 169-yard Semi-Final effort, so it seems likely he will again handle the bulk of the backfield work while Kienan LaFrance plays a complimentary role.

Thigpen rushed 15 times for 169 yards and a touchdown and returned two kickoffs for 38 yards in Sunday's 31-20 Eastern Semi-Final victory over the Redblacks.

Thigpen got the starting call with both Cameron Marshall (knee) and Trent Richardson (lower body) out and provided an eye-popping performance. The versatile speedster ripped off a 75-yard touchdown scamper early in the third quarter, extending the Roughriders' lead to 27-11 at the time. Thigpen also scored in his one regular-season appearance in Week 20, and if his backfield mates aren't able to suit up against the Argonauts in next Sunday's Eastern Final, he could well handle lead-back duties once again.

Thigpen is listed as the team's starting running back for Saturday's game against the Eskimos.

Thigpen is in line for a majority of the carries with Cameron Marshall (knee) and Trent Richardson (rest) sitting out the regular-season finale. Kienan LaFrance (undisclosed) will suit up and is listed as Thigpen's reserve on the depth chart, while Greg Morris is the only other running back on the active roster.

Thigpen (undisclosed) will be activated from the injured reserve and is expected to see time as the team's slotback during Saturday's game against the Eskimos, Rod Pedersen of 620 CKRM reports.

Thigpen has been sidelined since Sept. 15, but he's expected to rejoin the the Roughriders for Saturday's regular-season finale. With Cameron Marshall (knee), Trent Richardson (undisclosed) and Naaman Roosevelt (undisclosed) all unavailable Saturday, he should be in line for a slightly increased role, though he'll likely return to a reserve role in the playoffs with everyone expected back.

Thigpen is not on the depth chart for Sunday's game against the Stampeders.

Thigpen worked as the Roughriders' top return man in Week 13, but that role will be handled this week by Christion Jones.

Thigpen is expected to be both the primary kick and punt returner for Friday's game against the Tiger-Cats, Taylor Shire of Global Regina reports.

Thigpen, who was just added to the team's roster Tuesday, has seemingly impressed the coaching staff. He has a history of being a quality returner, notably posting a combined 1,346 yards and two touchdowns off kicks and punts during the 2010 season with the Tiger-Cats.
