RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson rushed three times for 26 yards and caught two passes for 13 yards in Saturday's 20-17 win over Winnipeg but did not play after the first quarter.

Johnson left the first quarter due to an undisclosed injury and did not return to the contest. He was having a productive game prior to exiting, totaling 39 yards on five total touches. Given the unknown severity or even type of injury suffered, Johnson's status for Week 6 at Ottawa is very much up in the air. Chris Rainey would continue to serve as the 31-year-old's replacement if needed.

July 9, 2018

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson rushed 13 times for 80 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 41-19 loss to Winnipeg. He added two catches for 13 yards.

Johnson opened the game with two rushes totaling 38 yards that would set up the Lions' opening field goal and would rumble in for a two-yard touchdown late in the second quarter. The Oregon product has improved with each week of the season so far, having carried the ball for more yards and an increased YPC in each successive game. He will look to continue that trend at home in a Week 5 rematch with the Blue Bombers.

June 29, 2018

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson rushed 11 times for 64 yards and a touchdown and added two receptions for 14 yards in the Lions' 41-22 loss to the Eskimos on Friday. He also returned two kickoffs for 25 yards.

Johnson parlayed a TJ Lee first-quarter interception of Mike Reilly into a one-yard rushing touchdown, giving the Lions an early 7-0 lead. The Eskimos defense seemingly had no answer for the bruising back, but BC's sizable second-half deficit limited his opportunities in the latter portion of the game. Johnson is averaging an impressive 5.5 yards per rush over his first two contests, although he's only logged a relatively modest 21 carries. However, his upside renders him a solid week-to-week option for DFS contests, and he'll look to up his numbers against the Blue Bombers in Week 4.

June 18, 2018

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson rushed 10 times for 52 yards in Saturday's 22-10 defeat of Montreal. He also added two receptions for four yards.

With only the diminutive return man Chris Rainey backing him up in Week 1, Johnson still did not lead the Lions in rushing yards. That honor instead belonged to his quarterback. Nevertheless, the Oregon product carried the ball effectively enough, averaging 5.2 YPC. It remains to be seen what will happen to his workload after the coming bye week once Travon Van (suspended - family matter) and Brandon Rutley (undisclosed injury) presumably return for Week 3 at Edmonton.

June 15, 2018

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson is listed as the top running back and the top kick returner on the Lions' depth chart for Saturday's game against the Alouettes.

Johnson returned just seven kicks all of last year, but it looks like he will get a shot to work in that role at the beginning of the new season. Of more importance, Johnson will the top option in the backfield, and he should be plenty active in that spot after totaling 1,455 yards and 12 touchdowns over 17 games a year ago.

November 4, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson rushed five times for 27 yards and a touchdown and added three receptions for 28 yards in Saturday's 40-13 loss to the Argonauts.

Johnson was back atop the depth chart in Week 20, but he was used sparingly on the ground. He did have a decently-sized role in the passing game and finished the season with career highs in receptions (48), receiving yards (542) and receiving touchdowns (3). He also fell just 87 yards of his first 1,000-yard season, but he did equal his career best with nine rushing touchdowns. Despite a relatively low volume of rushing touches (9.3 carries per game), Johnson served as a viable fantasy asset due to his substantial touchdown equity and consistent share of targets through the air.

November 3, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson is listed as the starting running back for Saturday's game against Toronto.

Although Johnson was marked as the third-string back for last weekend's game, he will return to his normal spot for the Lions' final game of the 2017 season. Chris Rainey is the only other running back listed on the active roster, so it appears as though Johnson will have a sizable role in Week 20.

October 27, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson is listed as the third-string running back ahead of Saturday's game against Winnipeg.

Johnson has posted 886 yards on the ground and eight rushing touchdowns for the Lions this season, but appears to have lost his role as the starting running back with the team heading into the last two games of the season. Since BC was recently eliminated from playoff contention, head coach Wally Buono is turning over the reigns to Chris Rainey while giving Tyler Davis a chance as the backup.

October 22, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson carried the ball nine times for 32 yards and added six catches for 44 yards in Saturday's 35-29 overtime loss to Edmonton.

The 30-year-old continues to enjoy a breakout campaign largely due to his staying on the field, and Jennings now has career highs in rushing yards (886), receptions (45), receiving yards (514) and total TDs (11) as well as games played (16). He should remain an integral part of the Lions' offense over the final two games of the regular season.

October 15, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson rushed 11 times for 67 yards in Saturday's 26-20 loss to the Blue Bombers.

Johnson's play was one of the positives of Saturday's loss, as he averaged a robust 6.1 yards per carry. It was the second time in the last three games that the 30-year-old had eclipsed the 6.0 YPC mark and his tally against the Blue Bombers gave him a new career-high rushing total (854 yards). Johnson is just two touchdowns away from setting a new personal best in that category as well, a feat he'll try to accomplish versus the Eskimos' leaky run defense in Week 18.

October 8, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson carried the ball six times for 35 yards and added six catches for 60 yards in Saturday's 30-25 loss to the Redblacks.

The six totes was his lowest total since Week 9, but the six receptions were a season high for Johnson. He's now 22 rushing yards shy of last year's career high of 809 and one rushing TD short of the nine he recorded in 2015, and he should remain a key part of the Lions offense down the stretch as they try to climb back into the playoff picture.

September 23, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson totaled 91 yards on 14 rushes and added three receptions for 87 yards in Friday's 24-23 loss to the Tiger-Cats.

The veteran running back had little trouble finding open rushing lanes against a vulnerable Tiger-Cats defense and also padded his receiving stats with a 58-yard catch-and-run on the last play of the game against a prevent defense. Johnson now has 91 yards rushing in two of the last three games and is just 58 yards away from eclipsing the career-best 809 he tallied last season. He'll look to establish a new high-water mark against the Redblacks following a Week 15 bye.

September 17, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson gained 52 yards on nine rushes and added two receptions for 22 yards in Saturday's 27-13 loss to the Stampeders.

The 30-year-old was one of the few bright spots on the night for a sluggish Lions offense that couldn't get much going through the air. Johnson did see a significant drop in rushing touches after logging a season-high 19 totes in Week 12, but double-digit carries really haven't been the norm for the veteran this season. He's been under 10 rushes in eight contests overall, although he's averaging an outstanding 6.0 yards per carry. Johnson will look to help the Lions offense get back on track against the vulnerable Tiger-Cats defense in Week 14.

September 9, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson totaled 91 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries in Friday's 41-18 win over the Als.

The veteran back hadn't seen double-digit carries since Week 7, and hadn't logged more than 14 totes in any one game this season prior to Friday. Johnson feel just one yard short of his best rushing total of the campaign as well, while finding pay dirt on multiple occasions for the first time in 2017. While his usage remains somewhat inconsistent, Johnson continues to make the best of seemingly every opportunity, as he's now averaging a stellar 5.9 yards per carry. He'll look to keep it going against a tough Stamps defense in Week 13.

August 26, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson rushed seven times for 31 yards and a touchdown and added four receptions for 39 yards and another touchdown in Saturday's 31-24 loss to the Redblacks.

Johnson managed to put together an impressive fantasy effort despite getting just 11 touches, scoring the first two touchdowns of the Lions' furious fourth-quarter rally. The veteran tailback's four-yard rushing score was his first since Week 5, and Saturday marked his third straight game with single-digit rushing attempts. Johnson's limited ground opportunities this week can largely be attributed to the sizable second-half deficit the Lions faced, and he projects to continue as an integral part of the offense regardless of which quarterback is under center.

August 19, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson carried the ball five times for 11 yards while adding one catch for 12 yards in Friday's 21-17 loss to the Stampeders.

It was Johnson's worst game of the season, and it's perhaps no coincidence that his production has dropped off the last two weeks with Jonathon Jennings struggling under center. Johnson, and the Lions offense, should bounce back soon enough, though, perhaps as soon as next Saturday in Ottawa.

August 13, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson gained 59 yards on just five rushes and added 12 yards on his sole reception in Sunday's 41-8 loss to the Riders.

Johnson was largely factored out of the equation early with the Lions quickly falling behind and getting stuck playing catch-up. The veteran did rip off a 50-yard run to salvage his night, as he gained just nine yards on his other four carries. The game flow clearly contributed to Johnson equaling a season-low carry total, but he'll look to bounce back against the Stamps in a Week 9 showdown.

August 5, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson rushed 10 times for 74 yards and added 38 yards on two receptions in Saturday's 30-15 win over the Riders. He also gained 20 yards on his sole kickoff return.

Johnson continues to see a relatively modest amount of carries, but he did notch double-digit totes for the first time since Week 3. The veteran running back's yardage total was actually his best since the opener, and Johnson is now averaging an excellent 6.2 yards per tote. The 29-year-old also continues to have a consistent role in the passing game and is averaging 11.0 yards on his 22 receptions. He'll look to extend his strong season in a Week 8 rematch against the Riders.

July 29, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson carried the ball five times for 30 yards but added five catches for 44 yards and a touchdown in Friday's 37-26 loss to Edmonton.

He's now found the end zone seven times (five rushing, two receiving) in six games while piling up 343 rushing yards and 200 receiving yards, making Johnson arguably the CFL's most productive running back through the early part of the season. The 30-year-old is on pace for career highs nearly across the board, including his first 1,000-yard season, if he can stay healthy.

July 22, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson carried the ball nine times for 48 yards and a touchdown in Friday's 45-42 win over the Blue Bombers.

The CFL's leader in rushing yards (313) and rushing TDs (five) also caught two passes for six yards. Johnson was in and out of the starting role last year, playing in only 11 games, but Lions head coach Wally Buono seems more comfortable rolling with the 30-year-old as his lead back in 2017, putting him on pace for career highs in every major statistical category.

July 15, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson totaled 69 yards and a touchdown on nine carries, 32 yards on two receptions and 26 yards on his sole kickoff return in Saturday's 41-26 win over the Ti-Cats.

Johnson once again played a pivotal role in the offense, despite the Lions focusing heavily on the air attack once Travis Lulay entered the game for Jonathon Jennings (shoulder). The 30-year-old running back averaged well over 7.0 yards per carry for the second time in the season's first four games while notching a rushing touchdown for the fourth time over that stretch as well. Johnson's role in the offense figures to remain robust irrespective of whoever lines up behind center, and his occasional return opportunities only serve to enhance his already considerable fantasy appeal. He'll look to continue the excellent start to his season when the Lions face the Blue Bombers in Week 5.

July 6, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson carried the ball 12 times for 34 yards and a touchdown and caught five passes for 68 yards and a second score in Thursday's 23-16 win over the Alouettes.

He opened the scoring with a nine-yard TD reception midway through the first quarter, then gave the Lions a lead in the fourth with a one-yard run. Johnson is averaging 104.7 combined yards per game so far in 2017 and has scored four TDs in three starts, making him a strong play next week against the Tiger-Cats defense that coughed up 32 points to the Argos in their opener.

June 30, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson carried the ball nine times for 70 yards and a touchdown in Friday's 28-15 win over the Argos.

The 30-year-old had a career year in 2016 but is well on his way to topping last season's 809 rushing yards, as he has 162 yards and two TDs through the first two games this year. He didn't catch a pass, though, and Chris Rainey seemed to be the preferred pass-catching option out of the Lions' backfield in this one, so expect most of Johnson's production this season to come on the ground.

June 25, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson rushed 14 times for 92 yards and a touchdown while adding 34 yards on four receptions in Saturday's 30-27 loss to the Eskimos. He also totaled 55 yards on three kickoff returns.

The veteran running back followed up a solid preseason with an excellent all-around effort in Week 1, arguably serving as the Lions' most effective offensive weapon. Johnson is coming off a 2016 campaign in which he racked up a career-best 809 rushing yards, but one in which he also tallied just 12 receptions in 11 games. Therefore, his involvement in the passing game Saturday was certainly a welcome sight, and could portend a more robust role on offense in the new season. Johnson will look to extend his strong start when he and the Lions tangle with the Argos in Week 2.

June 19, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson had nine carries for 55 yards and caught one pass for 11 yards and a touchdown in the Lions' exhibition finale.

Johnson already appears to be in regular-season form, racking up 66 total yards and a score on just 10 touches in his first extended action of 2017. Johnson's 5.9 yards per carry in 2016 led all CFL backs with at least 70 attempts, but he was also limited to just 11 games -- often as a healthy scratch in an effort to keep him fresh -- so don't necessarily expect big numbers from him week in and week out.

November 21, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson carried the ball eight times for 54 yards while catching three passes for 20 yards in Sunday's 42-15 loss to the Stampeders in the Western Final.

The Lions fell into an early hole, heading into the half down 32-0, and as a result Johnson's touches were fairly limited. He finished the regular season with a career-high 809 rushing yards, fifth in the CFL, and should be BC's lead running back again next year.

November 14, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson gained 110 yards and scored a touchdown on 11 carries and totaled 24 yards on two receptions in Sunday's 32-31 semi-final victory over the Blue Bombers.

Johnson once again served as the ideal complementary piece on the ground, posting his third 100-yard performance in the last four weeks in the process. The 29-year-old rumbled for a key 40-yard score late in the second quarter as well, which brought the Lions to within 25-12 heading into halftime. Johnson figures to once again play a key role against which he rushed for 97 yards on 18 carries over two meetings during the regular season.

October 30, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson gained 101 yards and scored a touchdown on 16 carries in Saturday's 24-6 victory over the Roughriders. He also gained 36 yards on two receptions.

Johnson now has back-to-back 100-yard efforts after having accomplished the feat only once before the current stretch. The veteran back has been outstanding while averaging over six yards a tote in the past two games. He's been an integral part of the game plan the last three weeks overall, as he's managed 46 carries during that span. Johnson should continue to see plenty of touches in next week's rematch with the Roughriders and in the postseason.

October 23, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson totaled 108 yards on 17 carries and added 12 yards on two receptions in Saturday's 32-25 win over the Eskimos.

The veteran running back put together his best rushing total since Week 12 against the Als. The effort represented only the second 100-yard game for Johnson on the season, but he continues to receive a solid dose of work, with double-digit carries in three of the last four games he's been active for. His chain-moving presence will undoubtedly be counted on again in a Week 19 tilt versus the Roughriders.

October 15, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson totaled 51 yards on 13 carries in Friday's 35-32 loss to the Blue Bombers.

Johnson was back in the starting lineup after a two-game respite and looked fresh, although he did come in at under 4.0 yards per carry for the first time this season. The 29-year-old has been strong all season, averaging 5.8 yards per tote while besting his 2015 rushing total by 112 yards in the same amount of carries.

October 13, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson will start at running back in Friday's game against the Blue Bombers.

Johnson sat out the last two games with Anthony Allen working as the primary ball-carrier, but he will be back atop the depth chart Friday while Allen spends Week 17 on the one-game injured list. The Lions' attempt to keep Johnson fresh by holding him certain weeks has worked, as he has averaged 6.1 yards per carry this season while scoring six times in seven games.

September 30, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson is listed as the fourth-string running back on the depth chart for Saturday's game against the Redblacks.

Several times this season head coach Wally Buono has rested Johnson and turned to Anthony Allen as the Lions' primary running back, and it appears that will again be the case again in Week 15. Johnson is averaging 6.1 yards per carry this season, so Buono's plan to keep him fresh appears to be working. While he is unlikely to see any work Saturday, Johnson figures to jump back into the starting lineup in Week 16.

September 27, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson did not work with the starters during Tuesday's practice, according to Lowell Ullrich of TSN 1040.

Johnson was productive over his last two starts and is averaging 6.1 carries this year, but several times already this season he has been held out of action in order to rest up, and it appears that could be the case again this week, as fellow running back Anthony Allen line up with the first unit Tuesday.

September 10, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson carried the ball 16 times for 159 yards and three touchdowns in Friday's win over the Alouettes.

Montreal's defense simply had no answer for Johnson, who also added a two-point conversion to Friday's tally. The third-year running back doubled his TD total on the season and now sits fourth in the CFL in rushing yards despite only having played six games.

September 8, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson is listed as the starting running back for Friday's game against the Alouettes.

Johnson and Anthony Allen have essentially traded the starting running back job back and forth all season, and it is now Johnson's turn to serve as the starting running back after giving way to Allen the last two games. Johnson has performed well when called up on this season, averaging 5.2 yards per carry and scoring three touchdowns.

August 31, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson is listed as the fourth-string running back for Wednesday's game against the Argonauts.

It was thought that Johnson would reclaim the starting running back duties from Anthony Allen this week, but the Lions will roll with Allen as their primary back for at least one more game. Johnson has twice previously been listed as the fourth-string running back and did not record a statistic in either game, so don't expect him to be a contributor Wednesday night.

August 25, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson is listed as the fourth running back on the depth chart for the Lions' Week 10 matchup with the Redblacks.

Johnson has worked as the Lions' primary running back this season when healthy, just as he is heading into Thursday's game. However, the Lions are just six days removed from their last game, and head coach Wally Buono will use Anthony Allen as his top running back this week and give Johnson a breather. It's not clear how the Lions' running back situation will play out beyond this week, but Johnson is not likely to be a major factor in Week 10, and could even be scratched altogether.

August 22, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson is expected to work in a reserve role in Week 10 behind fellow running back Anthony Allen, TSN 1040 Vancouver reports.

Johnson is not giving up his starting job due to performance; rather, head coach Wally Buono simply wants to use a fresh running back in Week 10 with the Lions playing Thursday -- just six days after their previous game. It's not clear how the Lions will dish out the carries both this week and beyond, but Buono has been pleased with Johnson's play thus far, so he should have a chance to get his job back after a one-week hiatus.

August 20, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson ran the ball nine times for 53 yards while adding two catches for eight yards in Friday's loss to the Stampeders.

After scoring three TDs in his previous two games, Johnson might have been due for a bit of a clunker. He's not a big part of the Lions' passing game though, so his touches will be limited when the team is stuck with a big deficit as they were Friday.

August 14, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson totaled 62 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries in Saturday's 45-38 victory over the Ti-Cats. He also had a successful two-point conversion.

The 29-year-old tailback now has three scores over the last two weeks and has looked impressive while racking 136 yards rushing over that span as well. Johnson provided great balance on a night where quarterback Jonathon Jennings and the passing game were also clicking, with his strong running helping to keep the Ti-Cats defense guessing throughout the contest. He'll look to extend his stretch of strong play when the Lions face off against the Stampeders in Week 9.

August 5, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson carried the ball 15 times for 74 yards and a touchdown while adding two catches for 40 yards in Thursday's win over the Alouettes.

After missing three games with an ankle injury, Johnson didn't miss a beat in his return to the starting lineup. He's on his third team in three seasons, but if he can stay healthy it looks like he's found a home in the Lions' backfield.

August 3, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson (ankle) is listed first on the depth chart at the running back position for Thursday's game against the Alouettes.

Johnson has not played since Week 2 due to his ankle injury, but he will start at running back this week just like he did to open the season. Anthony Allen, who started the last few games, is listed fourth on the depth chart, which points to Johnson working as the primary back and not as part of a time-share.

July 28, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson (ankle) is listed as the fourth running back on the Lions' depth chart for Friday's game against the Stampeders.

The Lions have not provided an official update regarding Johnson's health of late, but it appears he has a chance to get back on the field this week. However, the fact Johnson is listed fourth on the depth chart signals that he could still be scratched, and that his role could be minimal even if he is able to suit up.

July 15, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson (ankle) remains on the one-game injured list in advance of the Lions' Week 4 matchup with the Roughriders.

It's not entirely clear where Johnson stands in his recovery from an ankle injury, but he will sit out for the second week in a row, and Anthony Allen will get another start at running back in his place. Johnson will be able to rest up next week with the Lions on bye, and he could be back in action as soon as Week 6.

July 14, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson (ankle) may be looking at another week on the bench with teammate Anthony Allen seeing most of the first-team running back reps in practice this week, according to the Lions' official website.

The Lions have not commented on Johnson's status for this week's matchup with the Roughriders, but with Allen looking like he will start, it seems likely Johnson will be held out another week -- particularly with a bye coming for the Lions in Week 5. Expect the Lions to provide an official update on Johnson's Week 4 status sometime in the next couple days.

July 7, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson (ankle) was placed on the 1-game injured list and will not play in Thursday's game against the Argonauts.

It's not clear when or where Johnson picked up the injury, but the setback will prevent him from taking the field in Week 3. Anthony Allen will serve as the Lions' primary running back in Johnson's absence.

July 6, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson (ankle) is doubtful for Thursday's game against Toronto, the Vancouver Sun reports.

Johnson has expressed optimism that he'll still be able to play, but the Lions' No. 1 back is still walking around with a noticeable limp and is considered doubtful to take the field Thursday. Anthony Allen is expected to carry the load if Johnson is sidelined.

July 2, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson carried the ball 12 times for 76 yards in Friday's win over the Tiger-Cats. He also caught one pass for one yard.

With the Lions' defense holding the Ti-Cats to just three points in the game, they were content to keep the ball on the ground and let Johnson lead the way. He could have a tough matchup next week, however, at home against an Argos team that's allowed an average of just 70 rushing yards a game so far this season.

June 26, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson gained 44 yards on nine rushes and added five yards on his sole reception in Saturday's 20-18 victory over the Stamps.

The veteran tailback got his Lions career off to a solid start, making the most of his limited opportunity. Johnson averaged no less than 4.6 yards per carry in any one of his three CFL seasons prior to 2016, while also flashing some effective pass-catching skills last season with the Redblacks. While the 29-year-old's role in BC's offensive attack should expand as the season unfolds, it's certainly possible that quarterback Jonathon Jennings' ample ability on the ground could vulture some of Johnson's opportunities.

June 18, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson rushed for 52 yards on 10 carries in Friday's 31-21 preseason loss to the Stampeders.

The veteran offseason acquisition looked impressive in his final tune-up for the regular season, after also leading the Lions in rushing with 45 yards the week prior versus the Roughriders. Johnson amassed a total of 1,230 yards (796 rushing, 434 receiving) from scrimmage and 14 touchdowns in his first pair of CFL campaigns with Ottawa and Toronto, and appears primed to play an integral role in the Lions' attack in 2016.
