Roberts' opponent for UFC Hamburg, Alan Jouban, has dropped out of the fight due to injury, Ariel Helwani of ESPN reports.
Roberts was set to take on Jouban in what would have been just his sixth career UFC fight, but he is now opponent-less just 10 days before the event. There will likely now be a scramble to get Roberts an opponent before July 22, as the Englishman looks to improve his overall MMA record to 16-3.
Danny Roberts: Past News Updates ( ▲ View most recent update )
Fantasy AnalysisRoberts is coming off his first knockout victory of his UFC career, as he took down Oliver Enkamp in the second round of their bout at UFC Fight Night in London back in March. This was an impressive bounce-back effort after Roberts was knocked out by Nordine Taleb just three months prior at UFC on FOX 26. The English fighter now boasts a 3-2 record in the UFC but an overall MMA record of 15-3 heading into July's contest.
Fantasy AnalysisRoberts came out looking to strike with the karate standout Enkamp. He stunned Enkamp early and forced Enkamp to shoot on him. He defended the takedown and the fighters disengaged. Shortly after, Roberts landed a huge left hand that dropped Enkamp face down and the referee stepped in and stopped the fight.
Fantasy AnalysisRoberts is ready to get back on the horse after falling to Nordine Taleb at UFC on FOX 26 in mid-December via KO (strikes) in Round 1 of their fight. The Brit will return to his home country for this fight, putting his 14-3 record (3-2 in the promotion) on the line as Enkamp looks for his first victory in the UFC. Enkamp also lost his most recent bout at the hands of Taleb, as he went down via unanimous decision during his debut in the promotion in May.
Fantasy AnalysisAs always, if you're going to lose - lose with authority! Roberts was so out of it after the combination that knocked him out cold that he was actually arguing with referee Jerin Valel regarding the stoppage. He will change his tune once he sees the replay. Now 3-2 in the UFC and having alternated wins and losses in his last four fights, the Brit is nothing more than roster depth for the company.
Fantasy AnalysisRoberts was originally set to face Sheldon Westcott, but when both his opponent and Taleb's opponent at the event were pulled, the UFC decided to pair them up. "Hot Chocolate" recently jumped back on the winning track after defeating Bobby Nash this summer and will look to extend his luck against Taleb. He maintains a 14-2 career record.
Fantasy AnalysisRoberts maintains a 14-2 record (3-1 UFC). The Liverpool native will matchup with a fellow southpaw in this bout. Roberts thus far in his UFC career has landed 4.13 significant strikes per minute. With a three-inch reach advantage, that's something to think about. However, he has yet to score a takedown at the higher level, though he has five career submission victories.
Fantasy AnalysisRobert was clearly the better striker in this fight. However, Nash was very game early and even gave Roberts some issues with his wrestling. However, in the second round, the British fighter left no doubt. He stopped Nash dead in his tracks with a beautiful straight punch. Roberts joined the UFC in 2015. He has now gone 3-1 in the promotion with his only loss coming against Mike Perry. Despite coming from a boxing background, he has handled solid wrestlers Nathan Coy and Nash.
Fantasy AnalysisRoberts joined the UFC in 2015 and so far seems to be showing a stand-up fight preference. Statistics from his 2-1 (UFC) record show an average 4.53 significant strikes landed per minutes, but 4.16 absorbed. However, the southpaw's 13-2 career show an equal amount of wins from KO/TKO and submission (five and five respectively), so it will be interesting to see if he sticks with this strategy or mixes it up against Bobby Nash.
Fantasy AnalysisA granite chin is the only reason that Roberts nearly made it to the finish line. Facing an opponent who is known for his massive power and little else, Roberts found himself trapped up against the cage far too often. He ended up eating a grand total of 113 significant strikes from Perry, several of which could have ended the fight. It was Roberts' first loss in the UFC and his first in his last eight fights overall.
Fantasy AnalysisMake it seven wins in a row for Roberts. This one didn't come easy, Roberts spent more than half of this fight on his back, but he did a good job on the feet, getting off first in the majority of the striking exchanges to secure the victory. Roberts wrestling game needs work, which it will get now that he is training in South Florida with the Blackzilians, but the rest of his game is fairly well-rounded. The 28-year-old needs a couple more big wins to crack the top-15 in a deep welterweight division, but he is trending in the right direction.
Fantasy AnalysisRoberts has won his last six professional bouts, but only his recent victory against Nathan Coy came while under contract with the UFC. Out of his 12 total victories, five have been by knockout, five by submission and another two by decision, representing a solid all-around game.
Fantasy AnalysisIt was a beautiful debut effort in the UFC for London's Roberts. Little happened over the first couple minutes of the bout, but Roberts clamped on a terrific triangle choke from the bottom and Coy was out cold shortly thereafter. Coy isn't much of an opponent, but it certainly appears as if Roberts has some potential. It will be interesting to see who he is matched up against next.
Fantasy AnalysisRoberts will be making his UFC debut after fighting five straight bouts with the Cage Warriors Fighting Championship. He likes to finish fights early, as five of his 11 professional fights have ended in knockout, and four in submission. He's tasted defeat just once in his MMA career.
